Fried Pork and Prawn Wontons

Wontons can either be a quick, easy snack or part of the main meal. My favourite way to enjoy these delicious bite-sized morsels is deep fried. I hope you enjoy this easy wonton recipe which satisfies my cravings.

Prep and Cooking Time – 15 minutes + frying time | Serves – minimum 30 wontons

Ingredients

2 spring onion stalks (60g)
350g pork mince
150g raw prawn meat
30g soy sauce
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cornflour
1 teaspoon sesame oil
2 teaspoon minced garlic
wonton wrappers
canola/vegetable oil for deep frying

Method

Add spring onion to mixer bowl, chop 3 sec/speed 7/MC on. Scrape mixer bowl down and repeat if necessary to ensure onion is finely chopped.

Add all other ingredients (excluding wonton wrappers and canola/vegetable oil) and mince 10 sec / speed 6 /MC on. Scrape mixer bowl down and repeat if necessary to ensure all ingredients are minced and mixed thoroughly.

To create your wontons, place a heaped teaspoon of the wonton mixture in the corner of the wonton. Use water to line the edges of the wonton and fold wrapper over to create a triangle. Remove any air pockets before pressing firmly with your finger to seal the edges. Proceed to then take one triangle corner to the middle, then repeat this with the opposite triangle corner.

When you’re ready to cook (whether fresh or frozen), heat vegetable/canola oil on high heat. Once the oil is hot, cook wontons until meat is cooked and wrapper golden. Drain on a kitchen paper towel before serving with an accompanying dipping sauce of choice.

Notes and Variations

This recipe had heaps of filling left over to do another 30 wontons! So if you don’t use all the mixture up, you can always freeze the meat for another time.

You could also freeze wontons whole for next time. Be mindful of cooking your wontons from frozen, making sure the meat inside is cooked thoroughly.

This filling could be used to make dumplings for soups also!

I have seen recipes where wontons can be air fried or baked. A quick Google search can direct you to these recipes, which will have the setting needed to cook it in these ways.
